Plans for turbines at Sancton Hill resubmitted

Cornwall Light&Power, has today announced that it has resubmitted its planning application for five turbines on land at Sancton Hill, nr Market Weighton.

The company believes it can counter objections raised by East Riding Council when the proposal was first considered by the planning committee in March 2009. At the time, the committee’s concerns were the possible affect on the landscape and nearby conservation areas, and possible implications for aviation safety.

Bob Morgan, Development Manager for Cornwall Light and Power, stated: “We reviewed the feedback from East Riding Council very carefully and decided to conduct a range of additional on-site studies. Having completed these, we are satisfied that the scheme proposed would lead to no unacceptable local impacts. We have developed additional visualisations to further demonstrate how the wind farm would look from various key locations, and we believe that these new images demonstrate that the wind farm could become a harmonious part of the natural landscape and would not adversely affect nearby historic sites and conservation areas. In addition, we have collected on-site wind data by means of a small wind mast to correlate with our existing wind speed data and verify our computer modeling, and this has confirmed that the site has an excellent wind resource. We therefore firmly believe that our proposals demonstrate that Sancton Hill is an excellent site for a small wind farm of this kind.”

If the new application proves successful, a community fund would be established to support other environmental and community projects in the Sancton area, and could be worth as much as £30,000 to the local area each year.
